Lost in Translation (Rated R)

Lost in Translation should translate into "What a Bunch of Crap".

The only thing "Lost" in this movie is the hour and forty-two minutes I spent watched this drawn out story.

A story about an aging actor whose spending a week in Tokyo (and getting some big money for such an easy job) of making a commercial and a newlywed woman whose husband has brought her along on one of his photo shoots.

I have had dentist appointments less painful than this movie where it is drawn out of how both of their lives are so bad and they may or may not hook up with each other.

If either was in a bad marriage or some reasonable reason they would be drawn together to this "romantic" wanna-be story line then yes it could be a decent storyline.  It's a friendship where she prances around in her undies for most of the film (take notice she's cold enough to wear slippers, but not cold enough to wear pants), and Bill Murray's character is trying to act like he's recapturing his youth.

The only other movie I can compare this movie as being so drawn out is to the movie "In The Bedroom", but at least that movie had a plot.  As for the differences in culture--remember the Tom Selleck movie "Mr. Baseball"?

The only good thing I liked about this movie is that I saved major money on NOT traveling to Tokyo because as the movie shows every lifestyle aspect of Japan you feel as if you've already been there.

I might be missing the "hidden message" in the story, but here a message that is loud and clear for all to understand.

SAVE YOUR CASH AND JUST RENT~ IF YOU HAVE TOO.
