The story of a woman, Vianne (Juliette Binoche), comes to a small tight-ass French town where everyone plays by the purest rules. Church and nice thoughts always. She brings her daughter, whose she drags from place to place and some famous chocolate what's makes the townfolk not so perfect and makes them happy!
Whose never happy while eating chocolate besides a diabetic played by the well-known actress Judi Dench. She's happy, but shouldn't have it.
There are small mini-stories that are so tangled together that you don't realize how different they are suppose to be. Everyone knows everyone and has troubles.
Vianne's trouble is she and her kid never can stay in one place for long...follow the wind....until Johnny Depp's character, Roux, comes into town by boat.
He's not in the movie until pretty much the movie tone and characters are established and not until like the last quarter of the movie.
He can pull off the Irish accent!
Does she stay? Does she and Roux get together? Does the town burn her at the steak? I say rent this one, but more likely than not with its good stories and face paced action you will want to buy a copy for your own collection. It's a movie all ages can enjoy and fall in love with!
